In New York City, there are wide-spread accounts about the possession of condoms leading to harassment by the police as well as being used as evidence to charge individuals with prostitution. Similar patterns of police practices have been reported in DC and San Francisco. This criminalization of safe sex dangerously undermines people’s ability to protect themselves from HIV and other STIs.
At the ACT UP meeting this Monday, February 8, we will have two guests who will present about the efforts to reverse these anti-condom policies, including a bill pending in the New York State Assembly. Sienna Baskin from the Sex Workers Project at the Urban Justice Center and Johannah Westmacott from Safe Horizon will give us an update on the issue and discuss how ACT UP can be involved. Please join us to learn more and share ideas about this important campaign- 8pm, Mon, Feb. 8, LGBT Center (208 w. 13th St.)
