Subject: Fund Healthcare Not Warfare!

Dear GLAAD,

As a member of the queer community and an advocate for human rights, we are deeply concerned about your silence on the international call for a ceasefire in Gaza and maintaining a relationship with the ADL’s Center for Extremism. This relationship with the ADL — an organization, which has a history of defaming Free Palestine activists and aiding racist forms of policing and lobbying legislation that harm and racially profile Black, Arab and queer communities — must end and be given back to LGBTQ organizations focused on equity and safety for ALL LGBTQ people.

We urge GLAAD to reconsider silence especially in the face of defamation, misrepresentation, and overt lack of LGBTQ Palestinian narratives in nearly all news, entertainment, and media. Your silence as an organization (or pleas to uphold neutrality) are digested as support for genocide and hypocrisy to GLAAD’s own principles of equality and justice for “a world with 100% acceptance” of LGBTQ people.

The LGBTQIA+ community’s struggle for justice and equality parallels the Palestinian struggle for liberation in many ways. It is the duty of queer organizations and people to stand for the humanity of LGBTQIA+ Palestinians, who are being massacred in Israeli airstrikes regardless of gender or sexuality. Notwithstanding, tremendous disproportionate cases and lack of testing of/for HIV and AIDS due to destruction of health facilities and hospitals by Israeli forces. GLAAD must be advocating for life saving HIV healthcare for Palestinian communities.

When you stay silent, you say it is okay for Palestinians to lose access to HIV testing/healthcare/medicine, reproductive justice, the chance to fight against British colonial-era anti-LGBTQ laws and their oppressors, and ignore Jewish voices roaring for a ceasefire. An organization as large as GLAAD known for speaking up, ACTING UP, and fighting to change the world must be held accountable.

By standing against oppression, advocating for peace, and recognizing the humanity of all Palestinians, GLAAD will be standing on the side of oppressed queer people worldwide in the struggle for true equality.

Don’t just stand there, join us, Reneé Rapp, Indya Moore, The LGBTQ Task Force, and others in the call to end genocide in Gaza, and for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and reconsider your relationship with the ADL to Jewish Voices for Peace; it’s the least you can do with the power you hold.
